ABOUT ME :
Jared Edgar McKnight is an Architectural Designer at WRT in Philadelphia. Jared’s positive, confident and ambitious attitude coupled with his impeccable design and management skills have added immense value to his work at WRT. He brings a strong passion for interdisciplinary collaboration to his work at WRT, and though he has only been at WRT for two years, his diverse project experience encompasses a wide range of project use types in various phases of construction. His work spans multiple disciplines within the firm, including his work on WRT’s first ever fully integrated Architecture/Landscape Architecture project, the Hoover-Mason Trestle.
Jared received his Master of Architecture Degree, with honors from the University of Pennsylvania's School of Design [PennDesign]. While at PennDesign, Jared designed and edited the 2011-2012 PP@PD Publication, which featured design work from the 2011-2012 Post Professional Degree Candidates at PennDesign.
Jared received his Bachelor of Architecture degree with Distinction and Honors, graduating at the top of his class from the Pennsylvania State University. In addition to being a Schreyer Honors College Scholar at Penn State, Jared pursued a double major in Architecture and International Studies, as well as double minors in Architectural History and French & Francophone Studies. A leader inside and outside the classroom, Jared was extremely involved in the Penn State community as a member of the Lion Ambassadors [Penn State's Student Alumni Corps] and the Schreyer Honors College Student Council, for which he has held numerous executive board positions. He is a lifetime member of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and was active in the American Institute of Architecture Students [AIAS] from 2006-2011, when he held one of four student positions on the AIAS National Board of Directors.
Jared has received numerous academic honors and distinctions, most notably the 2010 Golumbic Award in Design, the 2010 Arts and Architecture Alumni Society Scholarship, the 2011 College of Arts and Architecture Creative Achievement Award, the 2011 Alpha Rho Chi Medal, the 2011 5th Year Design Merit Award, and the 2011 AIA Henry Adams Medal [a medal awarded to recognize the top-ranking graduating Architecture student]. He has also received a number of professional honors and awards, including the 2015 AIA Pennsylvania Associate Award, the 2016 AIA National Associate Award, and the 2016 Penn State Schreyer Honors College Outstanding Scholar Alumni award.
Jared is very active with the AIA Philadelphia Associate Committee and Philadelphia Center for Architecture, chairing their largest philanthropic event, CANstruction Philadelphia. CANstruction is an international design competition that invites local designers and engineers to design sculptures out of canned goods for a weeklong exhibition. In the last 5 years, CANstruction Philadelphia has raised over 250,000 lbs. of food and over $50,000 for those in need through Philabundance, the largest Hunger Relief organization in the Delaware Valley. For his efforts and commitments, Jared was recently named the recipient of the 2013 AIA Philadelphia Volunteer of the Year Award.
